Jeni & Dan’s Engagement Photos on Grandview Avenue

Kodjo Somana

Some engagement sessions are beautiful because of the location. Others are meaningful because of the story behind them. For Jeni and Dan, their engagement photos on Grandview Avenue were both.

When Jeni and Dan booked Kodjoarts for their wedding, their package included an engagement session. Instead of choosing a random park or downtown location, they wanted their session to feel personal. Grandview Avenue holds a special place in their relationship because it is where their story began. Their first date was at Grandview Café, so it only made sense to start their engagement photos at the same place where they first sat down together.

That kind of connection is what makes an engagement session feel genuine. It is not just about finding a nice background. It is about choosing a place that helps tell the couple’s story.

Starting Where It All Began: Grandview Café

We began Jeni and Dan’s engagement session at Grandview Café, the same location where they had their first date. Before moving around Grandview Avenue, we captured a few photos near the café and even recreated a few moments at the same spot where they sat during that first date.

That part of the session felt especially meaningful because it brought everything full circle. Years later, they were back in the same place, not just as two people getting to know each other, but as an engaged couple preparing for their wedding day.

Those are the kinds of moments we love capturing. A simple location can become powerful when it carries real memories.

Engagement Photos Along Grandview Avenue

After taking photos at Grandview Café, we worked our way through Grandview Avenue. The area gave us a great mix of storefronts, sidewalks, neighborhood charm, and natural interaction. Instead of making the session feel overly posed, we focused on movement, laughter, and prompts that allowed Jeni and Dan to be themselves.

Grandview Avenue was a perfect setting for their engagement photos because it gave them room to relax and enjoy the experience. They were able to walk together, laugh together, and settle into the session naturally.

One of our favorite parts of photographing engagement sessions is watching couples become more comfortable as the shoot goes on. At first, it is normal for couples to feel unsure about what to do in front of the camera. But once they realize the session is less about stiff posing and more about having fun together, everything starts to feel more natural.

That was exactly the case with Jeni and Dan.

Photos in Front of Grandview Theater

We also stopped near Grandview Theater for a few photos, which added another fun and recognizable Grandview Avenue backdrop to their session. The theater gave the gallery a little more variety and helped create a relaxed, playful feel.

What made this session so enjoyable was how much personality Jeni and Dan brought into it. They were not trying to force anything. They simply enjoyed being together, and that made the photos feel honest.

That is always our goal with engagement photography. We want the final images to look beautiful, but we also want them to feel like the couple.

Our Approach to Engagement Photography

At Kodjoarts, our approach to engagement photos is simple: we want couples to feel comfortable, have fun, and show their real personalities.

Of course, we do guide couples with some posing when needed. We understand that most people are not professional models, and they may not know what to do with their hands or where to look. But instead of relying only on stiff poses, we use prompts that allow couples to interact naturally.

That may mean walking together, holding each other close, sharing a laugh, or responding to a small direction in their own way. Every couple interprets prompts differently, and that is what makes the photos personal.

Jeni and Dan’s session was a great example of this. Their love for each other came through naturally because they were able to relax, enjoy the moment, and focus on each other instead of the camera.

Why Engagement Sessions Matter Before the Wedding

Engagement sessions are not just about getting beautiful photos before the wedding. They also give us a chance to get to know the couple before the big day.

For Jeni and Dan, this session gave us the opportunity to see how they interact, what makes them laugh, and how they feel most comfortable in front of the camera. That makes a big difference when it comes time to photograph their wedding.

By the time the wedding day arrives, they will already know what it feels like to work with us. They will be more comfortable with our direction, and we will have a better understanding of how to capture them in a way that feels natural.

That comfort helps create better wedding photos because the couple can spend less time worrying about the camera and more time enjoying the day.

A Personal Columbus Engagement Photo Session

Jeni and Dan’s Grandview Avenue engagement session was such a great reminder that the best photo locations are not always the most obvious ones. Sometimes, the best location is the place where the relationship began.

Starting at Grandview Café gave their session a personal foundation. Walking through Grandview Avenue allowed us to capture more relaxed and natural moments. Stopping near Grandview Theater added variety and a fun local touch.

Altogether, the session felt like Jeni and Dan: meaningful, joyful, relaxed, and full of personality.

We had such a great time capturing their engagement photos, and we are even more excited to photograph their wedding day.
